The HSE Advisor provides both field and administrative support to the site team and CAM leadership to ensure compliance with safety standards, legislation, and company policies. This role requires a proactive approach to safety, fostering a strong culture of workplace safety awareness and compliance.

Requirements

  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO), OSHA 30, CHST, or equivalent safety certification preferred.
  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field is an asset.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience on industrial or construction project sites, preferably supporting safety programs.
  • Experience working in utility plants, power generation facilities, heavy industrial environments, or large infrastructure projects is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and California (Cal/OSHA) regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Familiarity with contractor safety management systems and site safety procedures.
  • Basic understanding of industrial trades, construction operations, and typical jobsite hazards.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor craft workers and support supervisors in safe work planning.
  • Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain professional and effective when addressing safety concerns in the field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and digital reporting systems.
  • Ethical, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong safety culture across the site.
  • Identify and report employees unwilling to adhere to CAM’s HSE program or demonstrating unsafe behaviors.
  • Immediately report incidents and non-compliance issues to CAM supervision.
  • Mentor employees in completing Safe Plan of Action (SPA) cards effectively.
  • Provide feedback to CAM supervision regarding SPA and Safety Observation Report (SOR) participation and quality.
  • Highlight and escalate SORs that demonstrate effective incident prevention, cost-saving strategies, or high-quality workmanship.
  • Conduct safety walks and field reviews with new CAM employees.
  • Ensure new employees receive and understand required safety presentations, checklists, and onboarding materials.
  • Provide on-site support for injury management, including initiating care, scene control, witness interviews, and documentation.
  • Assist in injury management and light-duty/return-to-work programs.
  • Perform regular audits, inspections, and safety sampling.
  • Engage with field employees to reinforce safety compliance, maintain positive morale, and promote a supportive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with CAM’s Safety Program, customer safety programs, and OSHA (including Cal/OSHA) legislation, suggesting improvements when needed.
  • Prepare and submit initial incident notifications to the Site HSE Manager and Site Manager.
  • Support all aspects of incident investigations, including gathering statements, documenting findings, and preparing reports.
  • Generate and maintain incident documentation, including investigator notes, review board presentations, safety alerts, and supporting materials.
  • Assist with Safety Evaluation Reports (SER Audits) and the Site Readiness Review (TRR).
  • Maintain a CAM HSE action register based on employee feedback to address concerns and ensure follow-ups.
  • Document significant events, conversations, and action items in a personal log.
  • Participate in site meetings as required.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of Workers’ Compensation Employer Reports for incidents requiring offsite medical attention, light duty, or time off due to injury.
  • Advise CAM supervision on serious incidents requiring OSHA/Cal-OSHA notification, including hospital admissions, fatalities, unconscious employees, explosions, and structural failures.
