About The Position

The Human Resources Intern supports the Human Resources department in the daily administration of hotel HR operations. This position provides hands-on experience in recruiting, employee relations, onboarding, HR systems, and hospitality policies and procedures. The intern will interact with associates across all departments and assist in delivering a positive associate experience consistent with HEI Hotels & Resorts standards.

Requirements

  • Hotel experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of hotel operations, including marketing plans, security and safety programs, personnel and labor relations, preparation of business plans, repairs, maintenance, budget forecasting, quality assurance programs, hospitality law, and long-range planning.
  • Leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and to ensure accomplishment of goals.
  • Able to set priorities, plan, organize, and delegate.
  • Written communication skills to be concise, well organized, complete, and clear.
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences, such as effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, public etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting activities, including learning to conduct phone screens and scheduling interviews for non-management hotel positions.
  • Support the development and execution of a college recruiting program
  • Attend daily departmental stand-up meetings and observe employee relations practices
  • Provide HR office coverage by answering phone calls, greeting associates, and serving as a first point of contact for associate inquiries
  • Learn and utilize the HRIS system (Workday) for administrative and employee-related processes
  • Assist with associate relations events and recognition, as needed, e.g. Associate of the Month program, Associate Anniversary Awards program, etc.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and co-conduct orientation sessions with support from the HR Representative
  • Coordinate all other pre-selection activities, including drug testing; reference checks, etc., to ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures
  • Learn and apply hotel policies, procedures, and HR compliance standards
  • Respond to all interviewed applicants via telephone or letter within the required time frame.
  • Always maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information
  • Perform additional HR administrative duties as assigned
