These internships provide opportunities for students to acquire new skills and gain experience working with experts in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy. This experience is invaluable in providing students with the skills necessary to compete for positions within public agencies and the private sector. Applicants are not restricted by G.P.A. or academic focus requirements. This competitive internship program also provides opportunities to network with local experts within the San Diego region. OUR HISTORY San Diego Community Power was formed in 2019 as a public, not-for-profit community choice aggregator (CCA) in the San Diego region. We began electric service in 2021 and serve five member agencies: San Diego, Chula Vista, Encinitas, La Mesa and Imperial Beach, County of San Diego, and National City. SDCP was formed to bring local control and customer choice to San Diego while also providing clean and renewable energy at competitive rates. By the end of 2023, SDCP will provide electricity for nearly half the electric load in San Diego Gas and Electric’s service territory and will be the second largest CCA in California. INTERN ASSIGNMENTS About the role: The Human Resources Intern will assist with administrative tasks in various human resources functions including full-cycle recruiting, candidate experience, HR systems, and onboarding. This position will also gain exposure to Benefits, HRIS, and Safety & Wellness. This role is perfect for someone who is deeply curious about the real heart of HR—someone eager to explore what it truly means to support people, navigate business priorities, and help shape a meaningful, thriving workplace culture.

Requirements

  • Manage sensitive matters with a high level of confidentiality and discretion, especially decisions directly impacting the operations of the organization
  • Excellent communication and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Some proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proactive, collaborative, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
  • Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an Industrial Organizational (I/O) Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related degree program.
  • Interest working in a public utility and/or a CCA program is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruitment process by learning to scheduling interviews, coordinating candidate communications, and reviewing our applicant tracking systems
  • Attend Safety and Events Committee meetings
  • Assist with onboarding activities, including preparing onboarding materials and coordinating new hire logistics
  • Coordinate with HR team to host summer welcome new hires event
  • Maintain and organize HR documentation, employee records, and internal systems
  • Assist with the wellness initiative for the organization to participate in
  • Sustain a daily calendar of meetings and events.
  • Prepare Word, Excel, PowerPoint presentations, agendas, reports, special projects, and other documents in support of objectives for the organization.
  • Develop presentation at end of internship to present to organization that gives an overview of new skills and abilities
  • Other duties to be assigned as needed
