The Norfolk office of Kaufman & Canoles is seeking a full-time Human Resources Specialist to support firm-wide human resources and payroll functions. The position plays an integral role in benefits administration, employee engagement, payroll support, and HR operations. The ideal candidate will have prior human resources experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment. HR certification is preferred. Occasional travel to other office locations is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, or related field and a minimum of three years’ relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration strongly
  • Working knowledge of employment laws, compliance requirements, and best practices.
  • Possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and ability to use discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional demeanor and strong work ethic.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to routinely lift, carry, push, pull, slide materials weighing up to 25 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP) is strongly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for HR programs, initiatives, and department projects.
  • Assist with employee inquiries related to benefits, payroll, and HR policies and procedures and escalate to appropriate department members.
  • Manage 401(k) communications, enrollment materials, and employee education sessions.
  • Serve as the backup to the Payroll Manger by assisting with payroll processing and time edits.
  • Prepare firm-wide communication related to benefits, payroll updates, and HR initiatives.
  • Actively contribute to the weekly firm newsletter.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating employee events, recognition programs, and firm initiatives.
  • Support employee engagement efforts, including morale initiatives and engagement surveys for new hires, current employees, and departing employees.
  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned.
