About The Position

Under the direction of the Program Administrator, develop and implement a program of teaching independent living skills to clients enrolled in the program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months’ experience working in a direct care service position with individuals who have various levels of developmental, learning, emotional, or physical disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with consumers and others.
  • Be reliable and have good attendance and punctuality.
  • Present self in a professional manner.
  • Take initiative and exhibit good time management skills.
  • Use sound judgment when making decisions.
  • Cooperate with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. Proof of valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of state-mandated car insurance, and insurable driving record are required.
  • While driving for work, should a need arise, the employee’s insurance is deemed primary and ECF’s coverage is secondary.
  • Employees driving for company business must maintain a clean record and operate vehicles safely and responsibly. Company vehicles will be monitored and activity recorded. Violations of the driving policy may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of driving privileges, reassignment, or termination.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and NCI certification (may be obtained within 60 days of employment)

Responsibilities

  • With minimal supervision, teach independent living skills to consumers in groups and individually, as assigned.
  • Follow the ILS schedule provided by the ILS Program Administrator.
  • report any absenteeism immediately to the program supervisor.
  • In the event a client is not available for ILS session, check the logs and find another client that is available for ILS.
  • Conduct community-based activities to provide training in actual community settings.
  • Using public transportation whenever possible, take consumers shopping for groceries, clothes, recreation, and to their medical and dental appointments.
  • Document client progress using the billing form, ensuring all progress is documented accurately and in a timely manner, Complete assessments (current level of functioning and needs) on each client entering the program.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with residents and staff.
  • Comply with ECF’s Injury and illness Prevention Program.
  • Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Assist consumers during safety drills.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures including those related to medical emergencies, mandated reporting requirements for suspected abuse and neglect, and unusual incidents.
