About The Position

The Senior Commercial Manager will lead the commercial strategy and execution for complex GE Steam Power Industrial projects and service agreements, from tender through handover to execution. This role is accountable for contract structuring and negotiation, commercial risk and opportunity management, and margin and cash protection across the project lifecycle. Partnering closely with Sales, Project Management, Finance, Legal, and Engineering, the Senior Commercial Manager serves as a trusted commercial authority, ensuring disciplined risk management, procedure & policy compliance, and strong customer outcomes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in commercial management, contract management, finance, project management or related roles.
  • Experience partnering cross‑functionally with Sales, Project Management, Finance, Legal, and Engineering teams.
  • Ability to analyze financial and commercial data to support sound business decisions (margin, cash flow, cost, and risk).
  • Working knowledge of contract principles and applicable commercial regulations.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to compliance, ethics, and internal governance processes.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with at least 6 years of experience in Commercial role).

  • Proven experience structuring, reviewing, and managing commercial proposals & contracts, including pricing, payment terms, risk allocation, etc.
  • Strong understanding of terms and conditions, as well as Steam Power PSTC standards.
  • Strong understanding of commercial risk assessment and mitigation across the project or deal lifecycle.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Understanding and operating knowledge of NEX (Salesforce), Financial Summaries and other commercial tools.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the commercial strategy for complex Steam Power Industrial deals from tender through project handover.
  • Act as the senior commercial authority for assigned deals, providing guidance to leadership on commercial risk, opportunity development, and market/value pricing.
  • Support segment commercial priorities within Steam Power, ensuring alignment with Steam Power policies and business objectives.
  • Lead commercial handover from Sales to Project Execution, ensuring all assumptions, risks, and obligations are clearly documented and understood.
  • Structure and negotiate key commercial terms such as pricing, escalation, liquidated damages and payment milestones, as well as key terms & conditions including warranties, intellectual property, and limitation of liability (and many others).
  • Partner with Legal to draft, review, and finalize contracts and amendments, ensuring clarity, enforceability, and policy compliance.
  • Serve as an ITO escalation point for contract interpretation and dispute resolution during execution.
  • Lead identification, assessment, and mitigation of commercial and contractual risks, with particular focus on: Schedule risk and outage windows Scope definition and change management Supply chain and interface risk Environmental, Health & Safety
  • Drive opportunity structure for margin enhancement, cost optimization, and scope growth.
  • Ensure risks and opportunities are actively managed and reflected in cost estimates and handover documents.
  • Act as a trusted commercial advisor to Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance.
  • Interface directly with customers at senior levels to resolve commercial issues and strengthen long‑term relationships.
  • Present commercial risks, decisions, and recommendations to senior leadership and governance forums.
  • Mentor and guide other functional team members within Steam Power.
  • Ensure strict adherence to GE Steam Power commercial policies, risk governance, and approval processes.
  • Support audits, internal reviews, and deal approval forums as required.
  • Champion GE Steam Power’s integrity, compliance, and ethics standards in all commercial activities.
  • Capture and share lessons learned across Steam Power Industrial projects to improve commercial outcomes.
  • Contribute to standardization of contracts, pricing frameworks, and commercial tools for Steam Power.
  • Support development of commercial talent and best practices within the organization.
