About The Position

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. Website: www.pschinstitute.com The role: As an Infection Control Nurse, where you will coordinate the Infection Control Program, lead infection surveillance and reporting, and provide expert technical support and education to hospital staff. You will also oversee the employee health compliance program and collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer to evaluate and implement effective infection control training initiatives. This role is essential in promoting a safe and healthy environment for both patients and staff.

Requirements

  • RN License in the District of Columnia
  • BLS
  • Infection Prevention/Control Certification (CIC) or Occupational Health
  • Three or more years of nursing experience, preferably in a Behaviroal Health setting
  • Working knowledge of Joint Commission, Medicare, OSHA , and state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing infection control program
  • Working knowledge of epidemiology and infectious diseases

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains compliance of the Employee Immunization Program, including health screenings for new hires and current employees.
  • Manages regulatory reporting and tracks employee illnesses for infection control and prevention purposes.
  • Maintains up-to-date employee health records and coordinates the return-to-work process with employees and supervisors.
  • Implements and coordinates the infection control, prevention, and surveillance program as approved by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Investigates and reports infection outbreaks, monitors infection rates, and prepares monthly reports for the Infection Control Committee.
  • Provides infection control education and consultation to staff, including assisting with policy development and employee training.
  • Acts as a consultant for infection control in patient care, helping assess, plan, and evaluate infection-related issues and recommending home care when needed.
  • Develops surveillance methods to identify infections in patients and employees, conducts inspections for compliance, and coordinates with public health authorities for post-discharge infection monitoring.
