About The Position

The Palm Beach County Public Defender's Office, 15th Judicial Circuit, is a client-centered, dynamic advocacy office providing representation to people whose lives and liberty are at stake. The office handles close to 30,000 cases per year and has approximately 200 employees including lawyers, investigators, social workers, and support staff. The IT Department supports all of our employees, so that the office can provide dynamic high quality legal representation to our clients. The main office, housing the trial and appellate divisions, is in downtown West Palm Beach, and there are four branch offices in other areas of the county. PD15 Seeks creative, talented students who are passionate about helping people, for paid part-time internships. Candidates should be currently enrolled in a college-level information systems program and able to work at least 16 hours per week at our main office in Downtown West Palm Beach. The positions are available immediately, and the length of the internship is flexible. Overview: Information Technology interns at PD15 are typically students in an Information Systems program with a strong interest in using their knowledge to help people in the criminal justice system. IT Interns will work alongside experienced professionals and start out providing end user support for myriad systems in a dynamic fast-paced environment. As they grow and earn responsibility, interns will have opportunities to learn and gain experience with various systems including server infrastructure, web services, AI workflows, database administration, cybersecurity, Case Management software, and more. The work of IT interns at PD15 involves access to systems containing confidential client information, and Interns are required to maintain that confidentiality. IT Interns will also experience and learn about the law as they assist legal practitioners in the use of technology to provide exceptional legal representation to our clients. Interns will also bring fresh perspectives on how their understanding of current and emerging technology can solve longstanding challenges in providing exception legal representation to a large number of clients with a high volume of case flow. Any student enrolled in a 2 or 4 year Information Systems college program with strong computer skills and an interest in criminal law is encouraged to apply.

Requirements
