About The Position

The Inspector General Investigator is a full-time position reporting directly to the Inspector General. The Inspector General Investigator investigates corruption, waste, fraud, mismanagement and misconduct involving employees of the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court (Clerk’s Office). The Inspector General Investigator handles co-workers and clients with respect and courtesy when performing the job duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of full-time work experience performing investigations.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Ability to assess the validity of disputes.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing proper investigations.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to follow directions, multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with the general public, attorneys, employees and other court personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills in order to effectively conduct interviews and investigations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with a team and independently.
  • Ability to make clear presentations and facilitate meetings.
  • Ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
  • Computer literacy, skill and efficiency in entering and retrieving data and preparing informative reports.
  • Knowledge and fluency of Microsoft Office operations including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk or move for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to repetitively use hands to operate standard office equipment and handle documents.
  • Must be able to lift 10 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Current employee of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
  • AIG Certified Inspector General, Investigator, or Auditor. (Must upload certification with application before posting closes.)
  • Five (5) years of full-time work experience performing investigations.
  • One (1) year of full-time work experience in a Shakman or Rutan environment.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates allegations of corruption, waste, fraud, mismanagement and misconduct involving employees within the Clerk’s Office, as assigned by the Inspector General or the Deputy Inspector General.
  • Logs complaints from hotlines, web forms, referrals from Human Resources, Labor Relations or other entities. Reviews and analyzes complaints and determines next steps.
  • Identifies sources of evidence, conducts interviews with witnesses and involved parties, reviews and analyzes videos and documentary evidence.
  • Reviews, researches, analyzes and drafts memoranda on relevant legal or factual issues.
  • Drafts summary reports for review by the Inspector General.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
