About The Position

Welcome to Canvas. We are looking for a qualified self-starter, motivated Instrumentation Engineer for the 417th Flight Test Squadron (417 FLTS), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The 417 FLTS is the center of excellence for all ground and flight testing of Air Force and United States Special Operations Command’s C-130s. As technology continues to advance, new avionics and systems are integrated into the aircraft. The 417 FLTS is responsible to evaluate the new systems for safety of flight and that the new systems meet the warfighter’s requirement. The demand for skilled professionals who can design, develop, and maintain sophisticated instrumentation systems has never been greater. Instrumentation Engineers are pivotal in ensuring that systems and processes are operating efficiently and effectively. This role merges the principles of engineering, mathematics, and computer science to manage and optimize the performance of instrumentation and control systems. The following is a summary of the responsibilities and duties as well as qualifications and skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering or related field (preferable)
  • At least 3 years of experience in electrical or instrumentation engineering
  • Familiar with electronics and circuitry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Experience in Instrumentation design work
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to perform all functional duties independently
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards related to instrumentation
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with C-130 systems (preferable)
  • Experience with advanced instrumentation and control systems (preferable)
  • Proficiency with instrumentation software and tools (preferable)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills (preferable)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop instrumentation and control systems
  • Calibrate and maintain instruments for optimal performance
  • Analyze data to ensure accurate measurements and control
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with instrumentation and control systems
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate control systems
  • Provide technical support and training squadron members regarding instrumentation systems
  • Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards in instrumentation
  • Develop and implement software for instrumentation control
  • Conduct performance tests and prepare technical reports
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of instrumentation equipment
