About The Position

Under the supervision of the Department Director and/or Manager this hands-on position will be responsible for assisting across multiple City departments. This is a seasonal position (up to 40 hours per week). The primary goal of this Human Resources internship is to assist in the operations and execution of Human Resources programs and initiatives including recruitment & onboarding, benefits, personnel management, and HR related projects.

Requirements

  • A Junior, Senior, or Graduate Level student currently enrolled in a college or university with a major related to the role is preferred
  • Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and excellent oral and written communications skills are all essential to this position.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Knowledge of the operation of general office equipment including calculator, computer keyboard, computer word processing or other programs, telephone, telephone console, or copy machine as required
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical and accounting procedures
  • Skill in operating a computer
  • Skill in communicating both orally and in written form
  • Skill in researching complex issues and developing recommended actions
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate new and revised procedures, methods and standards
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise considerable skill in information handling, privacy of records and judgment
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Responsibilities

  • Learn and master internal operations, including but not limited to accounting, event planning, finance, human resources, payroll, communications, relationship building, customer service, sales, daily operations, etc
  • Maintain and update employee personnel records.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including sending follow-up emails and providing front desk coverage as needed.
  • Assist with internal audits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal regulations.
  • Manage employee offboarding process, including completing separation checklists and closing out personnel files.
  • Make recommendations to leadership for streamlining systems and processes
  • Research and implement solutions for enhanced efficiency
  • Provide general administration assistance and support
  • Participation in various meetings
  • Supporting event coordination
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
