About The Position

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home-based instruction to TK-12 students in California. We use K12, inc. curriculum as the basis for instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log attendance, attend instructional sessions, and complete coursework daily. In the Career & College Prep Program, we believe in collaboration across content areas and embrace a Project-Based Learning model. The California Virtual Academy, IQ and Insight School Psychologist Team is seeking a 3rd year School Psychologist Intern to support children and youth in meeting their potential. As a School Psychologist Intern at our virtual schools, you will be an integral member of the Special Education team. You will report to and work under the supervision of the Related Services director and a credentialed School Psychologist in conducting assessments, engaging in consultation with schools and families, and attending meetings for students. The school psychologist intern is responsible for administration of cognitive, academic, processing, and social-emotional assessment of individuals with exceptional needs under the supervision of a credentialed School Psychologist. The school psychologist intern provides assessment, diagnostic, and program assistance to the special education department. In addition, the school psychologist intern provides behavioral assessment to students as required. As an intern School Psychologist, you will work directly for the Stride K12 Powered Online Schools, including the nine independent California Virtual Academies, the Insight Schools of California, and the iQ Academy California-Los Angeles. You will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Support Services and a credentialed school psychologist.

Requirements

  • Reside in the state of California
  • 3rd year, PPS: School Psychology credentialling program
  • Demonstration of competency in the skills required of an intern of school psychology
  • Ability to support and guide adults, as well as students, during assessment process, to include IEP meetings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and time-management skills
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, PowerPoint and experience using them in a professional capacity
  • Assessments are generally conducted online, using a HIPAA compliant videoconferencing platform, such as zoom. Assessments are also conducted in-person, as necessary.
  • This is a full-time intern position where you will be required to work Monday to Friday during school hours.
  • Permanent California Residence (Must currently reside in 1 of the 42 CA counties we service/hire in)
  • Internship California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology OR • University Agreement letter showing you have completed your first 2 years and are approved to intern (We are not able to consider interns from Alliant International University due to being a virtual school and no MOU)

Responsibilities

  • Must be a current 3rd year school psychologist intern, through agreement with CTC and university PPS program
  • Conducts psycho-educational assessments or file reviews in accordance with District, State, and Federal requirements virtually or in-person
  • Utilizes assessment tools with a variety of techniques that are functional and based on the reason for referral. (e.g., standardized, curriculum-based, portfolio, and authentic assessments in accordance with child find laws)
  • Conducts assessments (under supervision) that address behavioral interventions, assists teachers in designing behavior plans including functional behavior assessments, and manifestation determinations
  • Completes all assessments within the mandated IDEA timelines
  • Presents a comprehensive report (reviewed and signed by supervising psych) about assessment results at the subsequent Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team meeting
  • Makes recommendations to the IEP team based on the findings of each assessment and specific to the identified disability as it relates to the core curriculum and the District’s Content and Performance Standards
  • The school psychologist intern will be responsible for attending IEPs to ensure that IEPs are compliant and current. Endorsement from a NASP and CAEP approved university program (Verified through ISBE form 73-44 "Notification of School Service Personnel Intern Eligibility Status").
