About The Position

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our staff, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach. Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Support Services, the School Psychologist serves as a consultant to the school community with regard to understanding and treating learning and behavior problems and recommends appropriate remediation for exceptional children. The psychologist studies and assists pupils using various techniques including but not limited to conferencing, observation, psycho-educational assessments, and counseling

Requirements

  • Reside in the state of California
  • Master's degree
  • Strong content and subject-matter knowledge
  • Ability to support and guide adults, as well as students
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and time-management skills
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills
  • Flexible schedule
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, PowerPoint and experience using them in a professional capacity
  • Have a strong understanding of the assessment tools used
  • Previous experience as a School Psychologist
  • Travel Required
  • Approximately 20-40 miles one way to complete assessments on a weekly basis, possibly up to 75 miles one way as needed.
  • Approximately drive 2-3 hours away to conduct an assessment a few times a month
  • As needed a few times during the year, fly to a location to complete an assessment
  • Must hold a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology

Responsibilities

  • Consults with school student support service teams concerning appropriate learning strategies and possible modifications and interventions to accommodate differences in learning styles.
  • Observes students as needed to assess educational settings and assist school staff with developing optimal learning environments
  • Develops behavior management and classroom management interventions and plans
  • Consults with parents regarding the development of learning and behavior interventions for students including recommendations for home support of school goals
  • Counsels students identified through the SST/CST/SAP/IEP process.
  • Monitors the implementation of interventions and evaluates student success
  • Provides professional development for staff and parents at school sites on educational disabilities, appropriate referrals, behavioral interventions, and instructional modifications
  • Collaborates with other student support professionals to support student progress
  • Communicates and provides timely follow-up with staff and families regarding referrals
  • Travels throughout the state of California to complete assessments and provide services as needed
  • Conducts psycho-educational assessments or file reviews in accordance with District, State, and Federal requirements
  • Utilizes assessment tools with a variety of techniques that are functional and based on the reason for referral. (e.g., standardized, curriculum-based, portfolio, and authentic assessments in accordance with child find laws)
  • Conducts assessments that address behavioral interventions, assists teachers in designing behavior plans including functional behavior assessments, and manifestation determinations
  • Completes all assessments within the mandated IDEA timelines
  • Presents a comprehensive report about assessment results at the subsequent Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team meeting
  • Makes recommendations to the IEP team based on the findings of each assessment and specific to the identified disability as it relates to the core curriculum and the District’s Content and Performance Standards
  • Other duties as assigned
