About The Position

East Tennessee State University is seeking three energetic, responsible, and personable individuals to serve as International Summer Experience Student Leaders for the 2026 International Summer Experience program. This short-term, immersive program welcomes international participants to ETSU for academic coursework, cultural engagement, and campus life experiences. International Experience Leaders play a vital role in ensuring participants have a safe, engaging, and enriching experience. This position is comparable to a camp counselor and requires a strong commitment to student support, leadership, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Ability to commit fully to the program dates (July 26 – August 7, 2026), including overnight residence hall supervision.
  • Ability to commit fully to the training dates (July 20 – July 25, 2026)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work with groups of individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to manage responsibility in a structured yet dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a camp counselor, resident assistant, orientation leader, or similar role working with students.
  • Experience working with international students or in multicultural settings.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Reside overnight in a campus residence hall for the duration of the program.
  • Supervise and support participants in a residential setting.
  • Escort and guide participants to academic classes, workshops, and scheduled activities.
  • Actively participate in daily programming and engagement activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model and representative of ETSU at all times.
  • Facilitate group cohesion and encourage cross-cultural engagement.
  • Provide mentorship, support, and conflict resolution as needed.
  • Assist with transportation of participants to off-campus activities (may be required to drive university-approved vehicles).
  • Ensure participant safety and adherence to program guidelines and university policies.
