Since 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Francisco. BGCSF offers student support and enrichment programs at Gateway High School (GHS). The goal is for every high school student at Gateway to graduate from high school with the skills, habits, and knowledge necessary for academic and personal success in college and beyond. The Student Support Leader will support two primary student programs: Enrichment Programs and Leadership Programs. Together, the two programs will ensure that students have strong academic instruction, wrap-around services and extracurricular activities. The Student Support Leader will work closely with the BGCSF Site Director, Gateway Student Activities Director, and other Gateway staff to support other student leadership and youth voice programs. This position follows the school year calendar. This role is for 32 hours weekly during the school year. The schedule may vary depending on programming and may include some evening and weekend work. Summer: This position has the option of 6-8 weeks of work at another BGCSF location during the Summer program (summer work site assignment and summer hours subject to availability) . This position is benefits-eligible.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or related work experience
  • Experience working with teenagers in educational, youth development, or community-based settings, teaching or professional facilitation experience with high school aged youth highly preferred
  • Experience working with teens and young adults, preferably students from traditionally underserved communities
  • Ability to drive a 12 passenger van with a clean driving record
  • Comfortable operating a motor vehicle while transporting youth
  • Proficient in working with Microsoft Office Suite and attendance data base systems
  • Ability to keep detailed records
  • Experience with data entry, or a willingness to learn and develop these skills
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and successfully handle competing deadlines and priorities
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification (within 90 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass background check and fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to commit to a 32-hour work week
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for events or moving from one Club to another.
  • Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students weekly with various areas of focus, including collaboration with school administration and other decision-making bodies, supporting events related to a positive school climate, addressing student and community issues that may be impacting the culture of the school, and other topics decided on by the students
  • Develop and facilitate curriculum that focuses on personal leadership development, and social and emotional learning
  • Manage the physical space of the Study Café, including defining and reinforcing appropriate student usage, and working with students and teachers to maintain and improve the space
  • Serve as the teacher on record for Independent Study students, including defining the criteria for earning Independent Study credit, communicating with students and parents about their progress, taking daily attendance, and evaluating students on a pass/fail basis
  • Support Independent Study students in prioritizing and completing work
  • Provide CyberHigh support for students working on online credit recovery
  • Act as a liaison between the students and Gateway staff by managing and developing student ideas, working with school administration on proper implementation and connecting and involving Gateway teachers
  • Transport students in Club vehicles or on public transportation as needed, according to BGCSF’s and GHS’s policies and procedures to ensure Club members’/students’ safety at all times
  • Manage accurate and timely collection of attendance and participation data by accessing and inputting attendance into the attendance database on a daily basis
  • Analyze the attendance data for any inconsistencies or incomplete entries and cross reference actual numbers to goals
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings
  • Implement and track BGCSF program outcome measurements outlined in the School-Based Clubs program requirements
  • Completion of any other duties deemed necessary by the BGCSF Site Director
  • At all times, maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco and Gateway High School
  • Develop and maintain communication and positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Work in close collaboration with Gateway administrators and staff, parents, and BGCSF Citywide Services
  • Provide any requested program updates and progress reports to Site Director, school administrators, funders, and/or other stakeholders
  • Respond promptly and professionally to all program and information enquiries
  • Promote program visibility within Gateway and BGCSF communities
  • Actively participate in and support school-wide events, such as family nights, back-to-school nights, and more
