About The Position

Internships at Blumenthal Arts (BA) are designed to offer hands-on learning experiences to college and graduate students considering careers within arts management. Our desire is to equip students with a robust skillset and provide them with professional experience to carry into their careers. Internships with BA are considered full-time and require a minimum commitment of ten weeks by intern candidates. For internship purposes full-time is considered 20-30 hours a week. Pending the needs of individual departments, flexibility in daily or weekly work schedule may be required. Interns may be required to work evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the department. To assist full-time interns with living expenses, BA offers paid internships. Housing is not provided. In addition to work experiences overseen by a BA department leader, interns may be required to attend semi-regular meetings with other interns and BPA’s Education Special Programs Manager to participate in career preparation and other learning activities. Interns may be eligible for college credit upon completion of BA’s internship program. Interns who intend to receive credit for their internship experience are responsible for meeting registration requirements of their respective colleges and for informing BA’s Special Education Programs Manager of necessary evaluation and/or other forms to be completed by appropriate BA personnel. Potential Internship Responsibilities by Department: Human Resources Interns will be involved with aspects of various human resource activities for Blumenthal Arts, acquiring a limited working knowledge of various HR areas including talent acquisition, compliance, benefits, and employee engagement. All majors are welcome to apply. Education Interns support the implementation and execution of programs and events in our venues and out in the community frequently in tandem with touring Broadway productions. Education interns interact directly with the Charlotte community from elementary school through senior populations. Programming – Show Booking/Artist Relations Interns will become more familiar with one or more of the following areas: contract negotiation, artist and client relationship management, long-term and short-term season planning, and show offers. Responsibilities may include departmental reporting, budget updates, creation of show offers, contract mark-ups, and artist research. All majors welcome to apply. Community Impact & Partnership – Fundraising/Development Get hands-on experience with the exciting world of fundraising for the performing arts. As an intern, you'll explore a variety of projects that support the creative work we do—whether it’s helping with annual and planned giving efforts, assisting on major fundraising campaigns, or diving into research to uncover new donor opportunities. You’ll gain insight into how arts organizations raise the support they need, and you’ll be part of making that happen. We are looking for candidates who are curious, collaborative, and eager to learn. All majors are encouraged to apply. Finance Interns will be involved with various aspects of accounting activities for BA, acquiring limited working knowledge of various accounting functions such as budgeting, reconciliations, month-end reporting, and document and data management. Preference for students who have completed coursework in Accounting/Finance or have finance-related career goals. Marketing - General Interns will be involved with various aspects of marketing activities for BA, acquiring limited working knowledge of development and execution of marketing plans including communications strategies, graphic design, branding, and grassroots efforts. All majors welcome to apply; coursework in marketing preferred. Data Analytics – Marketing/Ticketing The Data Analytics Intern will play a key role in supporting the Marketing and Ticketing teams by gathering, visualizing, and interpreting data to inform campaign performance and sales strategies. This intern will assist in creating reports that highlight audience engagement, promotional effectiveness, and ticketing trends, helping leadership make data-driven decisions. Throughout the term, they’ll gain hands-on experience in cross-department collaboration, campaign planning, and post-event analysis. This role offers a unique opportunity to explore how data shapes storytelling, outreach, and revenue growth in a premier performing arts environment.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students, or recent graduates within a year of their graduation dates to be considered.
  • Reliable transportation to Uptown Charlotte as this is considered an onsite program.
  • Applicants are required to submit an application, resume, cover letter and letter of recommendation. Applicants who fail to submit all required documents will not be considered.
