IT Desktop Support - GIS Systems
About The Position
Direct IT Support for Critical GIS Systems As an IT Desktop Support professional supporting the United States Geological Survey (USGS), you’ll keep desktops, laptops, virtual machines, and GIS applications running reliably and securely. You’ll support ArcGIS applications while managing the Windows environments that teams depend on every day. You’ll contribute as a key member of the team by setting up systems thoughtfully, troubleshooting issues before they affect users, and ensuring all desktops and virtual environments remain stable and mission-ready. From installing and supporting ArcGIS Enterprise components to maintaining Windows laptops and virtual machines, your work helps teams access and use geospatial data efficiently. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, collaborating across teams, and taking ownership of system performance and GIS application support. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 3 days on-site per week, combining on-site support with remote flexibility Salary: $60,000 - $70,000
Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant experience in technical support, system administration, or GIS environments Or a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, or a related discipline
- Hands-on experience building, configuring, and supporting Windows laptops and virtual machines
- Ability to troubleshoot Windows OS, network connectivity, and GIS application issues
- Familiarity with configuration management and applying security updates
- Proficiency in Python for supporting ArcGIS tools and automating GIS workflows
- Solid problem-solving skills and adaptability, including supporting users on-site and remotely to ensure continuity of GIS services
Nice To Haves
- Experience with GIS tools (e.g., FME, LP360, Global Mapper, GDAL, OSGeo)
