The Supervisor of Clinical Informatics acts as a critical bridge between clinical teams and the Information Technology (IT) department to advance Hackensack Meridian Health's (HMH) strategic objectives. Involves supervising a team of clinical liaisons and/or clinical informaticists to optimize the use of clinical information systems, improve clinical workflows, and leverage data to enhance patient outcomes. Translates clinical needs and business requirements into functional specifications to support system design, implementation, and improvement, ensuring that technology solutions meet the needs of our clinicians and patients. Working both independently and as a team leader, they serve as a subject matter expert on clinical information systems and data-driven healthcare improvement. This is a hybrid position. Candidates need to have the EPIC Informatics certification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or other relevant field; or equivalent relevant (4) years of experience may be accepted in place of a degree.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in healthcare informatics.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Team player and ability to multitask in a progressive environment.
  • Works independently and effectively manages time unsupervised.
  • Collaborates with team members across the department.
  • Creates and maintains clear, concise documentation.
  • Strong desktop skills, including spreadsheets, diagrams, presentations, and other collaboration suite tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of organization and staff in one-to-one settings and group presentations.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate the actions of a team to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • EPIC Informatics certification.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees as well as participates in the project management cycle for all applicable software implementation, maintenance, and support processes.
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership to target Clinical Informatics rounding and training activities effectively and efficiently.
  • Oversees the teams' rounding activities in support of ensuring efficiency and system compliance with clinical processes and clinical application systems, including but not limited to the EPIC Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Provides Informatics expertise and guidance to the team and promotes staff development.
  • Makes recommendations and assists with the development of departmental policies and procedures, as well as departmental and organization process improvement efforts.
  • Promotes teamwork, facilitates inter-team and intra-team communication.
  • Provides positions of leadership when facilitating the installation/upgrading of new/existing applications and components, developing onsite support plans, and validating work performed by lower-level staff.
  • Operates as an escalation point for Informatics-related issues related to team efforts and tasks.
  • Provides go-live support for users on new applications, modules, and functionality.
  • Oversees and/or performs analysis of system modifications to ensure expected workflow behavior and system modifications are well coordinated.
  • Analyzes business/clinical needs and requirements.
  • Interprets end-user requirements by ensuring potential options and optimal solutions are available to our clients.
  • Evaluates the operational workflow that is applied to the system.
  • Responsible for new feature implementation, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Presents oral and written communications to project teams and other departments.
  • Recommends areas for process improvements.
  • Documents all outcomes of testing as needed, and reviews lower-level Informatics staff testing outcomes for consistency and thoroughness.
  • Functions as a preceptor for new staff in the department.
  • Responsible for performing payroll duties, as appropriate for staff's schedules, PTO, etc.
  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of assigned informatics staff, including but not limited to the prioritization of work, coordination of resources, and performance reviews.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
