About The Position

Junior Maintenance Technician – Optical Lab Overview The Junior Maintenance Technician supports the optical lab by assisting with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, facility cleaning, and general operational support. This role is ideal for someone early in their technical career who enjoys hands-on work, precision machinery, and contributing to a clean, safe, and efficient production environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in technical troubleshooting
  • Ability to use hand tools, small power tools, and measurement devices
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or optical lab environment is a plus but not required

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with optical lab equipment or lens-manufacturing processes
  • Basic understanding of electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical systems
  • Experience reading equipment manuals, diagrams, or maintenance logs
  • Comfort working in a production environment with chemicals, coatings, and fine particulates

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine maintenance and cleaning of optical lab equipment, including edgers, blockers, generators, polishers, coaters, and surfacing machines
  • Perform basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on production equipment under supervision
  • Support senior technicians with equipment calibration, alignment, and component replacement
  • Monitor machine performance and report irregularities or potential failures
  • Help maintain preventive maintenance schedules and document completed work
  • Respond to equipment downtime and assist in restoring production quickly and safely
  • Maintain chillers, including monitoring performance, checking fluid levels, and assisting with basic repairs
  • Clean and replace filters on production equipment, HVAC units, and other lab systems as scheduled
  • Perform general facility cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, wiping down production surfaces, and maintaining cleanliness in equipment areas and walkways
  • Ensure chemical storage areas and maintenance rooms remain organized and compliant with safety standards
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of chemicals, coatings, and lab materials
  • Collaborate with lab managers and production staff to support smooth workflow
  • Participate in ongoing training to build technical knowledge of optical manufacturing processes
