Position Summary The Optical Technician must be able to work with our diverse base of customers (i.e. pediatric, adolescent, and adult) by delivering quality optical care and outstanding and friendly customer service, establishing customer loyalty. This position will perform day-to-day tasks to ensure all optical patients' needs are met, including contact lens insertion and removal classes and follow-up care. The Optical Technician must also possess strong sales skills by demonstrating a high level of knowledge about products and determining patient's need for eyewear to recommend specific accessories and or enhancements.

Requirements

  • 2 years of eyecare experience required
  • Ability to demonstrate eye–hand coordination, manual/finger dexterity, agility, and color vision and depth perception with visual acuity correctable to 20/25 while fitting eyeglasses and contacts
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.
  • Exercises sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understands when to route inquiries to next level
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes
  • Team player that develops strong collaborative working relationships with internal partners and can effectively engage and to build consensus among cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

  • Interpretation of glasses and contact prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists.
  • Recommend appropriate contact lenses and/or glasses enhancements after reviewing the prescription and the patients’ lifestyle needs.
  • Place glasses and contact lens orders with appropriate vendors.
  • Provide patient proper eyeglass and contact lens education, including insertion, removal and daily care.
  • Measure bridge, eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance and optical centers
  • Troubleshoot patient prescription issues and act as a liaison between patient and the ophthalmologist or optometrist
  • Maintain contact lens trial inventory
  • Properly document, track and follow-up on patient orders, ensuring superb customer service
  • Repair broken/damaged frames
  • Other duties as assigned
