About The Position

Winrock is seeking multiple consultants (at a junior or more senior level) who can support Winrock climate, energy and/or nature projects 8 to 40 hours per week. The consultants would help support the environmental sustainability strategies of some of the most influential companies in the world. Junior/senior consultants will support Winrock to serve clients in identifying decarbonization and nature-positive opportunities and ensure adherence to GHG calculation methodologies, including the draft Greenhouse Gas Protocol Land Sector & Removals Guidance and Science Based Targets initiative's Forest, Land, and Agriculture Guidance. The junior/senior consultants would do one or more of the following activities: evaluate climate mitigation, energy, and/or regenerative agriculture projects, provide technical advice on GHG measurement and monitoring, climate change mitigation and strategy development and project ideation in agricultural supply chains. Whether a consultant is deemed “junior” or “senior” will depend on the years or experiences, skills, and level of education. This role will be fully remote. Winrock generally prefers that the working location of the consultant to be close to US-based time zones or that the consultant can flex their schedule to align with a US Eastern Time 9-5pm schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in ESG and sustainability, carbon management, or another environment-related field is strongly preferred.
  • Graduate level degree in environmental science, forestry, natural resource management, ecology, geography, or related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years for a junior consultant and a minimum of 5 years for a senior consultant of relevant experience in climate change in adaptation/mitigation/resilience and GHG accounting for land use required.
  • Strong analytical capability and problem-solving abilities.
  • Fast learning, curious, passionate for uncovering and creating solutions to climate and sustainability problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, including effective public speaking and the ability to communicate complex issues both verbally and in written form.
  • Strong task and project management, with the ability to contribute to project operations and workflow effectively, to track and meet deadlines for multiple tasks, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • English professional-level oral and written fluency

Nice To Haves

  • Additional years of experience are strongly
  • Industry/sector understanding of GHG profiles and potential mitigation strategies for one or more of the following commodities: Palm oil, Cocoa, Sucrose, Vegetable Fats & Oils, Cereals & Grains, Dairy, Meat, and Coffee.
  • Expertise in tropical peatland rewetting/restoration.
  • Working understanding or experience with preparing submissions or reporting against key climate corporate leadership standards (e.g. GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and/or Project Standard, Science-Based Targets Initiative’s standards, the Value Change Initiative, TCAT, AIM Platform).
  • Experience managing climate and regenerative agriculture projects in the agriculture and forestry fields.
  • Having an understanding of carbon quantification methodologies (e.g., for carbon credits/offset credits), carbon credit or other sustainability product certification standards, carbon credit project development, monitoring reporting and verification of GHG emissions impact is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel is preferred.
  • Experience building dashboards in applications such as Power BI is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Professional-level oral and written proficiency in other languages such as Mandarin, Spanish, French, and/or Arabic is a plus.
  • Travel is not expected, but is a possibility depending on assigned projects, and always subject to approval. Ability to travel therefore is a plus but is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting interactions with clients, primarily in presenting updates or deliverables and conducting research to confidently answer client questions.
  • Contribute to and help lead projects on GHG measurement, climate mitigation/adaptation, and climate risk analysis.
  • Assess GHG reductions, removals, and co-benefit outcomes in agriculture to guide decarbonization strategies.
  • Develop knowledge products and training on climate mitigation, adaptation, and regenerative agriculture approaches aligned with industry standards.
  • Conduct research and prepare presentations, reports, and other communication materials.
  • Create decision-support tools for the measurement and monitoring of GHG emissions and ecosystem services in the land use and forestry sectors.
  • Managing technical consultants and providing technical guidance to them as necessary.
  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations, reports, memoranda, and other communication materials.
  • Completing tasks in fast-paced and self-motivated environment in a timely and efficient manner.
