About The Position

The mission of the Kentucky Horse Park (KHP) is to celebrate the history of our relationship with horses through education, exhibition, engagement and competition. Located within minutes of downtown Lexington, KY, the Kentucky Horse Park is a 1,224-acre working horse farm, equine theme park, and internationally renowned equine competition facility. Founded in 1978, the Park is owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and attracts more than 800,000 visitors from around the world annually. The Park also boasts a 260-site campground and is home to the International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian affiliate. KHP will be the premier event for equestrians and those who love and want to learn more about horses and man’s relationship with the horse. At Kentucky Horse Park, visitors and exhibitors will have diverse opportunities to engage with, learn and be enchanted by the beauty, strength and spirit of the horse. While looking over the security of the park, its visitors and horses, the KHP Mounted Police can be seen 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, patrolling the parks’ 1,200 + acres.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Must have one year of law enforcement experience as a sworn police officer – POPS (Peace Officer Professionals Standards) Certificate or Out of State Equal Certification.
  • Current certification as a law enforcement office by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council will substitute for the required experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to appointment in the classification.
  • Must be twenty-one years of age.
  • Employees in this job title are subject to provisions of KRS Chapter 15 and 503 KAR 1:140 relating to peace officer certification as administered by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certifications(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employees maintain required licensure(s), certifications (s) or other credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide uniform patrol service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • Provide law enforcement activities within jurisdictional limits patrolling the park in vehicle, foot and horseback
  • Provide traffic control and related duties for large events
  • Monitor and respond to the fire and security alarm system
  • First responders in emergency and/or crisis situations
  • Investigate criminal and non-criminal complaints to include personal injury and accident reports
  • Enforce Kentucky Administrative Regulations
  • Coordinate with cabinet officials and other law enforcement agencies on special events
  • Promote and maintain positive public relations
  • Maintain safe and suitable horses capable of performing police related patrols and details
  • Perform ceremonial duties by participating in honor guard and escort details
