FULL-TIME DAYS The Clinical Laboratory Assistant II – Phlebotomist performs routine technical and clerical functions to include specimen registration and billing. The CLA II performs venipuncture - capillary puncture as assigned; labels tubes and specimen containers, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens. The lab assistant II - phlebotomist performs CLIA waived laboratory tests as requested. Will assist in microbiology processing and plating specimens, as requested and completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Responsibilities General Functions: Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy. Maintains specimen integrity and follows proper labeling protocols for specimens’ tubes/containers Processes blood and other body fluids for various analyses to be performed by either BHS or reference laboratories. Tests specimens, under general supervision, for clinical studies in accordance with established BHS policies and procedures Reports lab results accurately and responsively, recognizing abnormal or unexpected results, errors and problems with patient tests. Inputs and retrieves data from the laboratory computer system. Performs basic clerical functions Assists in stocking and maintaining laboratory supply inventory Assists with training phlebotomists or laboratory students Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively Maintains safe environment Addresses patient population-specific needs obtaining blood specimens for all age groups served. Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Operate basic laboratory equipment, computers and medical software Assists in Microbiology processing and plating specimens as requested. Uses, maintains and cleans laboratory equipment and uses protective equipment to protect from Exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards. Is knowledgeable of emergency procedures.
