About The Position

This is an onsite, in-office position at Geneoscopy HQ in St. Louis, Missouri. The Laboratory Manager manages the operations and administration of the clinical laboratory for Geneoscopy's diagnostic tests. Additionally, they will create, implement, and manage the policies, procedures, and practices for optimal performance of the clinical diagnostics laboratory.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located if such licensing is required and ASCP certification.
  • Must meet one of the requirements: The manager is a physician licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of New York or an individual who has earned a doctoral degree from an accredited institution with a chemical or biological science as their major subject. The manager shall, subsequent to graduation, have had at least two years of experience in one of the laboratory specialties in a clinical laboratory or blood bank having a director at the doctoral level. The clinical laboratory or blood bank shall be part of a hospital, a health department, a university, a medical research institution, or another institution that provides equivalent training.
  • The manager holds a degree of Master of Arts or Master of Science from an accredited institution with a major in one of the chemical or biological sciences. Subsequent to graduation, has had at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience, of which not less than two years have been spent working in the designated laboratory specialty in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level. The clinical laboratory or blood bank shall be a part of a hospital, a health department, a university, a medical research institution, or another institution that provides equivalent training.
  • The manager is qualified as a medical technologist and has had at least four years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying, of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level. The clinical laboratory or blood bank shall be part of a hospital, university, health department, medical research institution, or other institution that provides equivalent training.
  • 10 years of experience as a Technologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory.
  • 2 years of supervisor experience managing several direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the laboratory and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.
  • Be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the laboratory director or technical supervisor.
  • Providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by qualified testing personnel.
  • Monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Assure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
  • Providing orientation to all testing personnel.
  • Evaluating and documenting the competency of all testing personnel.
  • Monitoring and ensuring that acceptance performance specifications are maintained, including: Review of quality control.
  • Scheduled instrument and equipment maintenance.
  • Other quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Ensuring test system performance: By initiating preventative and/or remedial actions when test procedures deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • In the event of nonconformances, ensuring that test results are not reported until corrective action has been taken and the test is performing according to laboratory-established performance specifications.
  • Verifying that personnel are trained and deemed proficient prior to performing testing on patient specimens independently.
  • Ensuring that staff have competency assessments as needed.
  • Ensuring action is taken when personnel do not perform as expected on competency assessments.
  • Verify, evaluate, and document that testing personnel is evaluated semiannually during the first year of hire, and thereafter annually, as being competent for assigned tasks and that remedial action is performed when staff does not perform as expected.
  • Direct the daily operational activities of the laboratory, both the technical and non-technical operations.
  • Effectively manage the department's staffing, monitor the testing schedule to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime, and adjust as needed.
  • Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and team leads and is responsible for all departmental staff.
  • Ensure that the diagnostic laboratory provides market-leading service levels, meet clients' needs, and meet service metrics established for TAT and quality.
  • Resolve client inquiries and operational issues promptly by consulting with the laboratory, Technical Director, Quality, and other applicable departments.
  • Ensure that the laboratory complies with all corporate, state, and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, State, ISO, etc.) related to personnel safety, quality of laboratory testing, and professional conduct.
  • Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment and methods.
  • Manage staff, including recruiting and hiring qualified and enthusiastic employees, performance management, training, and development.
  • Ensure effective communication with leadership, clients, sales, and corporate operations, as well as direct reports and all departmental staff.
  • Conduct departmental meetings and ensure appropriate departmental communication.
  • Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure corrective action.
  • Maintain technical knowledge in the assigned departments for laboratory testing.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, and recommend and implement solutions aimed at improving quality, reducing costs, and increasing the laboratory's overall efficiency.
  • Identify, baseline, and track actionable Key Performance Indicators.
  • The laboratory must have a supervisor or supervisor-qualified individual, as delegated by the laboratory director in writing, that is on the laboratory premises during all hours in which tests are performed.
  • This requirement does not apply to testing for emergency purposes, provided: The person performing the test qualifies as a clinical laboratory technologist;
  • The director has a defined requirements for supervisory review of test results, including quality controls;
  • The results are reviewed by the supervisor or director during his or her next duty period; and
  • A record is maintained to reflect review by the supervisor or director.
