The Analytical Services function supports nuclear fuel and reactor control component manufacturing by performing analyses of products for chemical and mechanical properties. The Analytical Services laboratories are equipped with a wide range of instrumental analyses (LECO analyzers for Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Carbon and Sulfur, multiple Agilent ICP-MS and ICP-OES, Nu mass spectrometers, Bruker XRF, Thermo ion chromatograph, Shimadzu gas chromatograph, Dupont electolysis, VaporPro, CEM microwave perp, etc.) and wet chemistry capabilities (e.g. titration, io sensitive electrodes). Analytical Services also uses Thermo Fisher Scientific SampleManager LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) software for sample tracking results recording and reporting. During the initial training period, typically lasting 3–4 months, the work schedule will be 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Upon successful completion of training, the regular work schedule will transition to 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education. High School diploma must include Chemistry courses.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Basic communication skills to comprehend, follow direction and convey detailed technical data.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships; work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receive samples and input information and test requests into system database.
  • Perform routine physical/mechanical, chemical and/or radiographic analysis on materials, products, components, etc., using various laboratory equipment and instruments and performs quality checks.
  • Prepare and analyze samples utilizing established laboratory practices and documented procedures.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment.
  • Dispose of samples and waste in adherence with strict safety procedures.
  • Prioritize samples, plan work sequence, and communicate status and results to chemist, manager and customers.
