The Lead Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor in the OBL provides administrative support duties to include assisting with department process improvement, back-up to Manager/Director, maintain supplies, coordinate schedules and meetings, and participate in training/in-services for clinical staff. This position also requires the same responsibilities and qualifications as a staff RN but has additional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must have a current active RN license without restrictions.
  • Must have ACLS and BLS certifications.
  • 2+ years full-time experience in acute care setting, Cath Lab/IR Lab, CCU, ICU, CVICU, PACU preferred.
  • 2+ years of Radiology special procedures preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading a team in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Conscious sedation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains daily operations of clinic.
  • Keeps Director/Manager informed of any issues with patients, staff or physicians that are beyond their comfort level or are questionable.
  • Orders departmental and medical supplies.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance/repair.
  • Conscientious of maintaining budget/spending (confers with Manager/Director).
  • Monitors quality control standards (Temperature logs, waived testing, drug sample logs, etc.).
  • Resolves less complicated patient, staff and physician issues.
  • Assists with evaluating staff performance, reviews, and recommends merit increases.
  • Reports to Director/Manager any associate non-compliance with approved policies.
  • Monitors staff work schedule and PTO requests - maintains appropriate staff coverage.
  • Makes sure referrals are appropriate and seen within a timely.
  • Assists staff as needed.
  • Case management to ensure efficient patient care and coordination throughout the entire treatment process.
  • Achieve quality patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in area of practice.
  • Participates in quality improvement unit activities based on unit focus/priorities.
  • Assists with identifying clinical learning needs of staff and ensures learning is achieved.
  • Ensures staff is following implemented systems to inform/monitor staff compliance with regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborates with Director/Physician and other disciplines/departments to resolve daily operational issues and flow.
  • Ensures employee files are current and complete including annual ACLS, BLS, RN licensure, RT licensure, and required education.
  • Orients/mentors staff into new roles resulting in achieved competencies within identified timelines.
  • Develops staff's leadership skills, facilitating learning and growth.
  • Assists staff to resolve identified learning/performance issues.
  • Monitors flexing, skill mix, use of overtime, per diem.
  • Identifies and/or participates in implementation of cost reducing or revenue enhancing ideas.
  • Contributes to utilization of supplies in a cost-effective manner that supports delivery of care within budgeted supply expense.
  • Contributes to meeting budgeted salary expense per unit of service.
  • Ensures that quality safety checks are performed in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to handle situations not covered by written or verbal instructions that maintain staff/patient safety.
  • Conveys importance and rationale of policies & procedures and standards of care to staff and patients.
  • Demonstrates resolution of safety issues in collaboration with Manager/Director.
