About The Position

In compliance with state requirements, maintains the ordering and stocking of medications and supplies as needed in the clinic. Under supervision of appropriate licensed healthcare professional as defined by State regulations, prepares and mixes medications. Coordinates with drug sales representatives, and pharmaceutical companies to obtain samples, teaching aids, and compassionate drugs. Acts as liaison between Physicians, Nursing, Pharmacy Supervisor and Purchasing in obtaining special order medications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • State current PTCB Certification or Registered Pharm Tech required.
  • Two - three years’ experience in a clinical setting as a Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Critical thinking skills including solid problem solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential material and sometimes emotionally charged matters.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, presentation) are an active listener, and effectively provides balanced feedback.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Ability to build an engaging culture of quality, performance effectiveness and operational excellence through best practices, strong business and political acumen, collaboration, and partnerships, as well as a positive employee, physician and community relations.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • Second language is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of appropriate licensed healthcare professional as defined by State regulations, mixes chemotherapy drugs and solutions as prescribed by Physicians.
  • Contact drug representatives and pharmaceutical companies to obtain samples, compassionate drugs, and education materials.
  • Maintain necessary records pertaining to compassionate drugs.
  • Maintain necessary records pertaining to Clinical Study Trials, if applicable.
  • Maintain necessary documentation pertaining to ambulatory pumps.
  • Responsible for daily and annual maintenance of Chemotherapy hood.
  • Responsible for safe and compliant disposal of Biohazardous waste, if applicable.
  • Maintains receipts pertaining to biohazard waste pick-up and ensures Accounting Office receives the receipt, if applicable.
  • Will have thorough knowledge of Nucleus medication dispensing system.
  • Work with Pharmacy Supervisor to ensure par levels are maintained to assure sufficient stock and minimize waste.
  • Will assist in training of new nurses and pharmacy specialists in all aspects of preparation of chemotherapeutic medications.
  • Assist in training regarding the Nucleus dispensing system.
  • Responsible for ordering, stocking and dispensing medical supplies as listed on the Medical Supply Sheet.
  • Review orders for next day with nursing staff to identify special drug needs.
  • Attend annual Safety/OSHA training meetings.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
  • Assist in training new employees to related job duties.
  • Will be expected to work at any AON location to help meet AON business needs.
  • Will be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adheres to AON and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
