About The Position

St Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a private, not-for-profit institute that is internationally recognized for its commitment to providing state of the art clinical services, while performing innovative scientific and patient-directed research. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Lead Researcher to join the Velasquez Lab in the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy (BMTCT). The Velasquez lab is interested in developing cellular immunotherapies for pediatric cancer. The Lead Researcher will conduct research that is focused on the immunotherapy of pediatric high-risk leukemias with genetically modified T cells. They will join a highly collaborative research group that strives to build and maintain a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion. Likewise, we care deeply about the success and professional growth of our lab members. Applicants with experience in generating and evaluating human immune cells, flow cytometry, and preclinical models are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area is required
  • 5+ years of research experience is required
  • 3+ years of experience is required with a Master’s degree
  • No prior experience required with a PHD
  • Strong knowledge and experience in understanding and application of underlying principles related to techniques being performed
  • Experience in R&D methods and processes in lab setting, and execution of research projects for the laboratory preferred
  • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role

Responsibilities

  • Tissue culture – e.g., isolation of cells from blood samples, cell sorting, culture of primary cells and cell lines, transduction of cells with viral vectors.
  • Functional analysis and characterization of T cells – e.g., ELISA, Multiplex analysis, flow cytometric analysis, cytotoxicity assays.
  • Molecular and Cell Biology – e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, western blot analysis.
  • Handling and experiments – e.g., cell injections, cell isolation, imaging.
  • Analyze data, present results at lab meetings, support manuscript and grant submissions.
  • Keep accurate data records and notebooks.
  • Assisting in the day-to-day operations of the lab.
