About The Position

St Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a private, not-for-profit institute that is internationally recognized for its commitment to providing state of the art clinical services, while performing innovative scientific and patient-directed research. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Lead Researcher to join the Velasquez Lab in the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy (BMTCT). The Velasquez lab is interested in developing cellular immunotherapies for pediatric cancer. The Lead Researcher will conduct research that is focused on the immunotherapy of pediatric high-risk leukemias with genetically modified T cells. They will join a highly collaborative research group that strives to build and maintain a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area is required
• 5+ years of research experience is required
• 3+ years of experience is required with a Master’s degree
• No prior experience required with a PHD
• Strong knowledge and experience in understanding and application of underlying principles related to techniques being performed
• Experience in R&D methods and processes in lab setting, and execution of research projects for the laboratory preferred
• Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role

• Applicants with experience in generating and evaluating human immune cells, flow cytometry, and preclinical models are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Tissue culture – e.g., isolation of cells from blood samples, cell sorting, culture of primary cells and cell lines, transduction of cells with viral vectors.
• Functional analysis and characterization of T cells – e.g., ELISA, Multiplex analysis, flow cytometric analysis, cytotoxicity assays.
• Molecular and Cell Biology – e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, western blot analysis.
• Handling and experiments – e.g., cell injections, cell isolation, imaging.
• Analyze data, present results at lab meetings, support manuscript and grant submissions.
• Keep accurate data records and notebooks.
• Assisting in the day-to-day operations of the lab.
