About The Position

Responsible for providing library services to students, faculty and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assists with providing information regarding various library services, sorting and shelving library materials according to classification code, issuing, receiving, and storing library materials, researching and processing information in the library’s data management system, and providing patrons with assistance in locating materials. What a day of a Library Assistant looks like: Welcomes and assists persons who come into the department. Assists patrons finding materials and operates equipment to include library databases, online catalog, and the internet. Processes charges, discharges, and renewals of items. Shelves new or return materials; maintains proper order and straighten books and materials on shelves. Performs online searches of college databases; enters or edit data to existing database files. Receives, records, and puts away new books, and periodicals. Documents issues in proper records and files. Types and edits forms, reports, memos, and correspondences. Includes word processing. Inputs and updates data to established spreadsheets. Sets up, organizes, and maintains files, manuals and publications, distributes as needed. Assists in the design and distribution of brochures and flyers throughout the college, campus, or outside groups. Plans, administers, and conducts inventory of equipment or materials. May include accounting records associated with inventory. Interacts with students both within and outside the instructional, student and academic setting in a professional and ethical manner. Assists instructors with a variety of office support activities and functions . Assists personnel with operating office equipment such as personal computers, printers, and copying machines as well as software programs, providing training when necessary. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some related experience
  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications
  • Skilled in: Delivering a high level of customer service
  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
  • Ability to: Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service
  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Use various methods to perform research
