About The Position

As a Library Services and Outreach Assistant, you will fulfill collection requests, organize materials for shipment, and process returns, as well as assist guests in the library. This is an active, fast-paced role that involves movement, lifting, and direct interaction with both materials and people. Requirements

• Experience: High school diploma required; 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Physical Capability: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver carts up to 200 pounds.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact professionally with library staff, guests, and volunteers.
• Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office and library systems. Ability to learn new technology and platforms as they emerge.
• Attention to Detail: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail when managing materials and performing tasks independently.
• Guest Service: A friendly, courteous attitude when assisting library guests with their needs.
• Flexibility: Ability to work evenings and weekends, and travel between branches as needed.
• Safety and Maintenance: Ensure the safety and upkeep of the facility, reporting any issues to the appropriate departments.
• Regular physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. Ability to use ladders and step stools to retrieve and shelve materials, and to perform repetitive motions related to material handling.

Responsibilities

• Collection Management: Retrieve, process, and fulfill collection requests efficiently. Check in/out materials and manage item transit between branches.
• Material Organization: Sort, shelve, and organize materials using the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
• Customer Support: Assist guests with locating materials, offering reading recommendations (Reader's Advisory), and providing guidance on using library resources.
• Facility Maintenance: Ensure the library is in top condition by performing opening and closing procedures, handling financial reconciliation, and maintaining the branch appearance.
• Training & Mentoring: Help onboard new staff, share knowledge on circulation processes, and assist with training and supervising volunteers.
• Outreach: Participate in pop-up libraries and outreach events to expand library services to the community.
