About The Position

Teton County Library is seeking a Collection & Access Services Manager to lead the teams responsible for selecting, organizing, and moving materials throughout the library system. This role oversees acquisitions, cataloging, processing, interlibrary loan, and access services to ensure materials are efficiently processed, shared between locations, and made readily available to the community. As a member of the library’s leadership team, this position works closely with the Director of Library Services and the Library’s other service managers – administrative, adult, youth, and Alta Branch - to guide collection strategy, manage the materials budget, and ensure library collections reflect community interests and needs. SUMMARY: Manages a library service area, of Collection Services for Teton County Library; ensures the library facilities are attractive, safe, and provide a variety of informational, instructional, recreational, and research services to meet the needs of the community; assures operations are in compliance with state and federal regulations, and County policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • 2-5 years of public library experience
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Supervisor or Lead within department (OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience)
  • Principles and practices of public library administration.
  • State and federal resources for Library programs.
  • Techniques and practices for efficient and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Methods and procedures for developing, managing, and maintaining library collections.
  • Library classification, cataloging, and acquisition protocols.
  • Policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of library programs and facilities.
  • Customer service principles and practices.
  • Record keeping, records management, and project management standards.
  • Local community issues and regional community resources available to citizens.
  • Managing and coordinating public Library operations.
  • Developing and managing Library plans, budgets, policies, and procedures.
  • Managing staff, delegating tasks and authority, and coaching to improve staff performance.
  • Analyzing problems, resolving disputes and grievances, and developing effective solutions.
  • Promoting, presenting, and evaluating a variety of informational and educational programs.
  • Identifying library collection issues and recommending enhancements to meet the needs of the community.
  • Researching, compiling, and analyzing information from a variety of sources and developing effective action plans
  • Evaluating patron needs and prioritizing and promoting Library programs and projects to meet needs.
  • Planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of standard and specialized software.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff, the general public, and representatives from other local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) preferred.
  • Valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Specific technical skills training and certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a library services area, which could include youth services, adult services or collection services, to include informational, instructional, recreational, and research programs and projects; plans, develops, and organizes special outreach and promotional programs and activities; assists in budget development and management of budget and library resources; assures activities are in compliance with all laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Manages library staff; plans, prioritizes, and assigns tasks and projects; instructs and trains staff, monitors work, develops staff skills, and evaluates performance; analyzes workload trends, and implements staffing and assignment adjustments; monitors workflow and the quality of services provided.
  • Ensures implementation of the services, programs, and events specific to the library service area.
  • Meets regularly with Library managers and senior staff to discuss and resolve service improvements, training and technical issues, policy and process improvements, resource allocation, community engagement, and priorities.
  • Provides technical and professional assistance to library patrons and teaches the use of library resources and equipment; assists with researching complex and difficult queries.
  • Promotes Library programs and services to local community agencies, advocates, and citizen groups.
  • Supports the relationship between the library staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with patrons and library staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and library information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Leading system-wide collection management, including acquisitions, cataloging, processing, and interlibrary loan
  • Overseeing access services which includes circulation operations and materials movement, including holds fulfillment and resource sharing between locations
  • Managing collection and access services staff including hiring, evaluating, and providing professional growth opportunities
  • Developing and managing the collections budget using usage data and community input
  • Supporting staff in building balanced, responsive collections
