About The Position

Riverside Healthcare is seeking a skilled and dedicated License Pending Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Mental Health Unit team in Kankakee, Illinois. The license pending RN will provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients undergoing various medical and surgical treatments with emphasis in ortho/neuro diagnoses under the supervision a license registered nurse. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a commitment to excellence in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. This role is intended to be held for a three-month period and can only be extended if more time is needed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation to process the license to correspond with the ILL Nurse Practice Act.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Official written notification of completion and pass of the NCLEX-RN exam.
  • Proof of submission of the required licensure fee.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification
  • The privilege to practice as a license-pending registered nurse will be aligned with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and shall be terminated with the occurrence of any of the following:
  • Three months have passed since the official date of passing the licensure exam as inscribed on the formal written notification indicating passage of the exam. The 3-month license pending period may be extended if more time is needed by the Department to process the licensure application.
  • Receipt of the registered professional nurse license from the Department.
  • Notification from the Department that the application for licensure has been refused.
  • A request by the Department that the individual terminate practicing as a license-pending registered nurse until an official decision is made by the Department to grant or deny a registered professional nurse license.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Practice under the supervision and direction of a licensed RN or APRN until he or she receives his or her license to practice or until the license is denied.
  • Complete screenings and routine/focused assessments
  • Patient Education
  • Perform nursing skills/ implement interventions with supervision (catheter insertion, wound care/dressings, etc.)
  • Assist with all ADLs
  • Specimen collection
  • Perform EKG
  • POC Glucose
  • Vital Signs
  • Hourly rounding
  • Respond to call lights
  • IV/ Urinary Catheter insertion (supervised)
  • Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds and monitors vital signs.
  • Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
  • Assesses plans and evaluates patient care needs.
  • Carries out physician orders.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Instructs and educates patients and families.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
  • Provides age and culturally-appropriate care.
  • Provides cardiopulmonary management and monitoring for patients.
  • Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
