About The Position

The Lifeguard/Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants in the aquatic environment at Andrus. This dual role includes maintaining vigilant supervision of the pool area as a lifeguard and delivering high-quality swim lessons that cater to the diverse needs of participants. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of water safety protocols, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing inclusive and engaging instruction to individuals of all ages and abilities.  Schedule of Life Guard/Swim Instructor: Part-Time Hours- 12 Hours Per Week:  Monday thru Thursday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm  or Weekend Hours

Requirements

  • Current Lifeguard certification from a recognized agency (e.g., American Red Cross, YMCA).
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Strong swimming skills and knowledge of water safety.
  • Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on inclusivity and positive reinforcement.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for working with diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the pool area to ensure a safe and secure environment for all swimmers.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, performing water rescues, administering first aid, and utilizing CPR/AED as needed.
  • Conduct routine checks of pool equipment, including safety and rescue equipment, and report any maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, incidents, and water quality checks.
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions to maintain lifeguarding certifications and skills.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct swim lessons for individuals and groups, catering to a wide range of ages and skill levels.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate varying abilities and learning styles, ensuring all participants feel supported and encouraged.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and caregivers to provide progress updates and address any concerns.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes confidence, skill development, and a love for swimming.
  • Collaborate with the Therapeutic Recreation Director to develop and implement specialized programs or events as needed.
