As a Log Yard Operator, you’ll play a critical role in the sawmill production process. Your day will include: Operate front end loader, knucleboom loader, and crane under general supervision. Inspect loader and crane for safety issues on a daily basis. Determine if any parts are malfunctioning. Complete daily check sheets, track load counts from trucks, and load feed into the mill. Unload and load trucks at the work site using a front end loader and knucleboom loader. Operate hand and foot controls on crane and loader. Work with in precise limits and standards of accuracy. Perform as a backup for the crane operator and scale operator as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work from elevated positions using safety gear.
  • Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Willing to work rotating shift, including weekends, holidays, or overtime as needed.
  • Commitment to safety.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to change.
  • Ability to adhere to all safety policies and regulations including wearing safety equipment.
  • Ability to work in noisy environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Driving and operating mobile equipment such as a front end loader, skid steer or a forklift within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience in lumber or wood products industry and/or manufacturing.
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment.
  • Sawmill experience preferred.
