About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) for Long Term Care and Intermediate Swing Bed (ISB) is responsible for the overall clinical leadership, regulatory compliance, and operational management of the nursing services within Minneola District Hospital Long Term Care. This includes oversight of the 26-bed Long Term Care unit and 9-bed Intermediate Swing Bed program. The DON ensures high-quality resident care while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The position provides leadership for nursing staff, coordinates interdisciplinary care, manages staffing and scheduling, and oversees clinical programs including risk management, infection prevention, quality assurance, pharmacy reporting, and care planning. This position works closely with hospital leadership, providers, department managers, and regulatory agencies to ensure safe, effective, and resident-centered care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Kansas.
  • Minimum 2–3 years nursing experience in Long Term Care or Skilled Nursing Facility.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of long-term care regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a rural healthcare environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist residents when needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise nursing services for the Long Term Care and Intermediate Swing Bed units.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care consistent with current standards of practice.
  • Oversee resident assessments, care planning, and clinical documentation.
  • Ensure proper completion and maintenance of resident medical records and discharge documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with all CMS, KDADS, and hospital regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and implement updates to ensure compliance.
  • Update and maintain nursing policies and procedures as needed.
  • Assist with survey preparation and coordinate responses to regulatory inspections.
  • Develop and maintain staffing plans that meet regulatory requirements and resident care needs.
  • Coordinate nursing staff schedules for the LTC and ISB units.
  • Participate in recruitment, orientation, and retention of nursing staff.
  • Provide staff supervision, performance evaluations, coaching, and discipline when necessary.
  • Oversee incident reporting and follow-up investigations.
  • Identify trends and implement corrective actions to improve resident safety.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
  • Monitor quality indicators and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with quality reporting requirements.
  • Assist with infection control and prevention efforts in coordination with the facility’s Infection Prevention program.
  • Monitor infection trends and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Oversee pharmacy reports and medication management processes.
  • Work with the consulting pharmacist to ensure compliance with medication regulations.
  • Monitor medication errors, pharmacy audits, and controlled substance documentation.
  • Oversee interdisciplinary care planning for residents.
  • Ensure care plans are current, individualized, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in care plan meetings with residents and families when appropriate.
  • Assist with MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) management and safety compliance.
  • Promote a safe working environment for staff and residents.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, social services, dietary staff, and other departments to coordinate resident care.
  • Support discharge planning and transitions of care.
  • Maintain required reports and documentation for hospital leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and organizational planning as required.
