About The Position

The Machine Shop Team Leader is responsible for supervising daily machining operations and leading a team of machinists to ensure production goals, quality standards, and delivery commitments are met. This role partners closely with departments such as production control, inspection, and assembly to address manufacturing challenges that impact workflow, cost, and customer delivery. The Team Leader promotes a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and effective communication while ensuring machining processes operate efficiently and reliably.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience; machine shop experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of machining operations, production planning, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience applying structured problem-solving methods and Lean manufacturing tools.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work across departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily machine shop operations, ensuring schedules and production targets are achieved.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of machinists with varying experience levels, supporting development and cross-training.
  • Serve as the primary contact for machine shop issues after production release, resolving challenges that affect manufacturing progress.
  • Develop and implement machine shop standards, processes, and workflow improvements to enhance quality, reduce costs, and improve lead times.
  • Collaborate with production control, inspection, and other departments to address operational issues impacting assembly lines and customer delivery.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to quality, field issues, or process inefficiencies.
  • Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives, including process standardization, continuous improvement activities, and team coaching on Lean principles.
  • Coordinate improvement projects and analyze current processes to identify opportunities for efficiency and productivity gains.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational regulations, including OSHA requirements.
