The Machinist II role requires complete set-up including advanced editing, programming and operation of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines including vertical, horizontal and multi-axis machining centers, manual machines, lathes and mills. This position reports directly to the 1st shift Area Production Supervisor and will operate daily out of the Indianapolis, IN facility (primarily Mon-Fri). Relocation for this position cannot be supported and qualified candidates must have authorization to work in the USA without support.

Requirements

High School Diploma, GED/HSE/HiSET or equivalent required
Understanding GD&T – including but not limited to reading and understanding gaging
G and M code knowledge
Machine setups understanding
Production Order Performance
On Time Performance to customer
Safe work history
Machine parts with good quality
Participate in Kaizen events and improvement proposals
Cross-training and e-learning
Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with internal customers of the production parts.
Paperwork and software must be completed correctly to allow others who have a part in the order’s completion understand the production order to completion.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist, sit, walk, and stand for at least 8 hours a day
Must be able to work overtime when required.
Non-climate controlled facility.
Material handling equipment (Lift truck, two wheeled truck, carts, etc. Cranes, hoist, screw jacks, hydraulic jacks.
Manual, power driven, and pneumatic hand tools, electronic engraver, Power saw, cutoff wheel, grinders, hydraulic press, radial drill, arbor press, Arc Welding, acetylene cutting equipment and threading machine,
Precision measuring instruments, gages, meters
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to read and apply mathematics to work from engineering drawings and schematics to determine assembly procedures and problem solve.
Basic understanding of the fundamentals of electricity.
Ability to operate precision instruments and lifting equipment
Mathematics skills including proficiency subtracting, multiplying and dividing for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally in the English language to understand and use written or verbal control and work instructions,
Ability to analyze and problem solve to resolve various technical and interpersonal issues with collaboration, respect and professionalism.
Possess a demonstrated ability to work within a team.
Understand and demonstrate a proactive safety approach.
Possess good problem solving skills with limited supervision.
Proven ability to direct, train, and give guidance on the assembly activities and processes.
Must maintain a good attendance record.

Ability to run key machines within areas of responsibility.
Strong experience using machining centers in a job shop environment.
Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, setup sheets, etc.; Precision measuring instruments, gages, meters
Able to be forklift certified
Able to be Hazmat certified
Able to operate overhead cranes/hoists
Advanced knowledge of blueprint reading, shop math (decimals, fractions, geometry, trigonometry, etc.) and GD&T, Manufacturing Principles (Safety, Quality, Lean, Process Flow, etc.)
Awareness of Safety and Quality Systems
Able to read and interpret work instructions and procedures
Computer (MS Windows, Lab View, Excel)

This position requires the incumbent to stand for extended periods of time, frequently grasp tools, push/pull/lift, bend, stoop, crouch, reach, stand, and walk when performing duties; twist and reach when assembling parts.
Specific vision abilities include close, distance and peripheral vision.
Able to work in a non-climate controlled factory or field environment.
Demonstrated strong work ethic (including good attendance), strong organizational skills and strong communication skills (written and oral).

Nice To Haves

Additional Technical training much preferred.
2-4 years manual machining (including but not limited to mills, drills and grinders) experience much preferred.
1-3 years CNC programming, operation and setup with various controls including Fanuc Controls, Mazatrol Controls and Allen/Bradley Controls on CNC milling centers, CNC lathes and/or CNC mills much preferred.
Experience doing precision machining using manual machines such as threading, boring and grooving much preferred.

Responsibilities

Complete setup including programming (Fanuc Controls or G Code preferred), editing, operation and preventative maintenance on CNC milling centers, CNC lathes and/or CNC mills.
Perform off-sets, fixturing and recognize signs of tool wear and poor finish and make adjustments to correct.
Follow all safety and quality procedures and standards and participate in efforts to improve processes, product flow and work standards
Complete required paperwork (manual and electronic) in a timely and accurate manner
Maintain safety and cleanliness of equipment and work area
Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Communication, Internal Controls, etc.).
Verify conformance of finished work piece to prints and specifications and perform secondary operations such as debur, chip removal, bushing, tapping, drilling, etc.
Provide training and instruction to other employees as required; Performs manual and electronic record keeping an information retrieval functions.
Inspect area in accordance with 5S principles
Insure daily machine and crane PMs are being completed.
Understand SAP confirmations and insure process is followed.
Study blueprints, drawings, specifications, etc. to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
