Provides technical support to the production departments with regard to the fabricating and/or modifying components utilized in new or existing production equipment, testing fixtures, and developmental tools, fixtures or machines.. Diagnose problems with existing and new components, recommend corrective actions to assure trouble-free operations. Performs layout, and set-up, programming of automatic machines, operating and making tool adjustments for a variety of major conventional machine shop equipment. Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks which may include cutting, or shaping of metals to precision dimensions. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions. The Machinist II is responsible for determining how best to complete assigned tasks within the designated time frames. Work may need to be coordinated with individuals within Engineering and as well as other departments. Emergency repairs and requests are completed or delegated to other associates expeditiously to maintain uninterrupted production operations. Provides training and guidance as needed to Associate Machinists and Machinist I associates especially when they are working on more complex and non-routine machining and tooling components. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to training and supervision of other machinists, assisting/overseeing other TMC associates using shop equipment, scheduling and directing resources to perform emergency repairs, providing input on design reviews and work requests as needed, specifying and procurement of tooling and materials required to complete work requests.
