About The Position

Under the general direction of the GELC Facilities and Operations Manager, the GELC assists with facilities and operations coordination functions, and performs building and grounds maintenance, and custodial duties. Ensures that the physical environment is safe and healthy for the care of young children and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and three years of related experience in maintenance/grounds keeping, and facilities and operations coordination. Equivalent combination of related education may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards to assist in facility operations.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Work in a team environment, and to be a self-starter, and to be able to work independently.
  • Ability to assess situations to maintain a safe working and operating environment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, track information and coordinate work requests and work flow.
  • Ability to set priorities and finish work in timely manner Work in high pressure situations.
  • Ability to monitor work schedules.
  • Ability to learn new methods, materials, and equipment ordinarily used in cleaning buildings.
  • Ability to perform the various custodial tasks associated with the care and maintenance of buildings and surrounding premises.
  • Ability to use a leaf blower, hoses, electrical cords, and pressure washer.
  • Ability to work with private vendors in order to assist with ordering supplies for the center in a cost-effective manner.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and other licensing standards for child care. Must have a valid Washington State driver's license, liability insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • TB Test required upon hire.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, CPR/First Aid certification within the first 90 days of employment and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must acceptably pass a criminal background check prior to, and periodically throughout employment.
  • Must complete and pass a drug and alcohol screening upon hire and throughout employment.
  • Must attend required Tribal Language classes scheduled throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Director in opening, assigning, tracking, closing and reporting maintenance work order requests as necessary.
  • Assists Manager in coordinating and scheduling ongoing preventative maintenance systems such as HVAC, etc.
  • Assist Manager with scheduling and coordinating maintenance with external contractors, obtain quotes, review contracts, and ensure quality of outsourced work.
  • Attends meetings and tracks internal and external projects/activities that will assist GELC maintenance related coordinated activities such as setting up Summer camps in coordination with other Tribal departments, etc.
  • Organizes and track annual maintenance schedule and timelines, creates a calendar for maintenance activities and projects. Provide status updates to management on ongoing and completed tasks.
  • Assists Manager with creating, approving, and submitting official documents for the Facilities and Operations Manager.
  • Assists Manager by initiating maintenance supply and equipment orders.
  • Maintains inventory of GELC emergency and regular use supplies, ensuring timely re-ordering and restocking as needed.
  • Works with Manager to coordinate scheduling work orders, facility use for internal and external activities, including setting up and breaking down equipment and other materials used for GELC related events.
  • Plans and schedules all GELC compliance and safety activities, including drills, emergency preparedness trainings, and required monitoring and inspections.
  • Conducts all TOC-required monitoring and inspections, prepares detailed reports, and works with Maintenance Supervisor and GELC Administration to ensure identified issues are assigned and resolved promptly.
  • Conducts regular inspections of buildings, systems and equipment. Identifies areas for repair, maintenance or safety improvements.
  • Collaborates with Tribal programs as needed (Land Management, Facilities operations, Security).
  • Performs regular, daily maintenance duties as needed. Acts as a Maintenance worker when required.
  • Moves and arranges furniture as directed.
  • Receives supplies and transports them to proper locations or storage.
  • Reports concerns to Facilities and Operations Manager or GELC Directors.
  • Serve as a role model for Maintenance staff to create a positive work team, develop and cultivate positive peer and vendor relationships. Supports a culture of enthusiasm, teamwork and superior service among all staff, peers, and vendors.
  • It is the goal of GELC to support tribal children’s learning experience and to learn and be care in a Tribal cultural context, including language. The person in this position is required to take Puyallup language classes as scheduled throughout the year.
  • Must actively participate in professional development activities and complete trainings as recommended or assigned by the Supervisor in order to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Expected to assume a leadership role in supporting the overall maintenance operations of the Center.
  • Complete specific tasks and initiatives as assigned by the Director at this time and will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating daily operations, annual planning activities, strategic projects, and other operational priorities as directed.
