About The Position

Performs general office administrative and interfaces with all visitors, parents and guests to support the department and families.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of one year of general office related experience and/or training in an office setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have intermediate experience and knowledge with computers and be able to proficiently operate programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Must use strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check prior to employment and periodically throughout employment, including Federal Fingerprinting and WA State DCYF child abuse and neglect registry.
  • Must have and maintain CPR certification.
  • Must have and maintain First Aid Certification.
  • Must pass TB test.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Washington State drivers license and current automobile insurance. Driver’s License restrictions must not otherwise prevent an employee from driving a GSA vehicle and complying with the Vehicle Use Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and escorts visitors/vendors to their destinations.
  • Answers, screens and routes telephone calls.
  • Helps all visitors sign in/out on the log and assigns a visitor pass.
  • Greets parents in a warm, professional, and enthusiastic manner them sign their child in through computerized attendance program. Verifies that are authorized parent pickups.
  • Responsible for copying applications and other documents.
  • Creates flyers and disseminates appropriately.
  • Ensures all employees utilize the sign in/out sheet.
  • Communicates with GELC Administration staff regarding visitors, deliveries, phone calls, emergencies, etc.
  • Composes routine correspondence and memos.
  • Ensures a clean, well-maintained, and presentable environment. Maintains the center’s entrance bulletin board with current program announcements and up-to-date news flyers.
  • Required to work schedule assigned by supervisor (opening, closing, split shift, etc.) as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • The person in this position is required to take Puyallup language classes as scheduled throughout the year at GELC.
