Job Summary: The Maintenance Planner / Scheduler is responsible for the technical planning, preparation, and scheduling of all maintenance work to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable execution of maintenance activities. The role supports asset reliability by developing fully prepared work packages, coordinating maintenance schedules, and enabling the efficient use of maintenance labor and resources. This position is a critical component of the Reliability Excellence Model, ensuring maintenance work is executed using precision maintenance standards, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles, and SMRP best practices. The Planner / Scheduler ensures that maintenance work is planned before it is scheduled, scheduled before it is executed, and executed according to defined technical standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or process industries.
  • Background must include experience as one of the following:
  • Industrial electrician
  • Instrumentation technician
  • Mechanical technician
  • Reliability technician
  • Hands-on field experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Industrial mechanical and electrical systems
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance methods
  • Reliability engineering fundamentals
  • Precision maintenance practices
  • Equipment troubleshooting and failure modes
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • Mechanical drawings
  • Electrical schematics
  • Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Equipment manuals and technical documentation
  • Proficiency with:
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Maintenance reporting and data analysis tools
  • Advanced planning and organizational skills
  • Strong technical communication abilities
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Strong collaboration with operations, engineering, and procurement
  • Data-driven decision making

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance work is planned with complete technical detail prior to scheduling
  • Work execution follows precision maintenance procedures and technical standards
  • Maintenance resources are utilized efficiently with minimal waste and delays
  • Participates equipment failures and address through defect elimination and root cause analysis
  • Maintenance work supports asset lifecycle management and reliability improvement
  • Develop technically complete work plans for all maintenance activities including:
  • Preventive maintenance (PM)
  • Predictive maintenance (PdM)
  • Proactive maintenance
  • Corrective maintenance
  • Reliability improvement work
  • Reviewing approved work orders and determining technical scope of work
  • Identifying required craft labor hours and skill requirements
  • Determining required tools, materials, and specialized equipment
  • Work closely with reliability engineers and maintenance leadership to ensure maintenance activities align with asset reliability strategies.
  • Ensure all planned maintenance work supports precision maintenance standards, including:
  • Precision shaft alignment
  • Proper fastener torque specifications
  • Lubrication best practices
  • Contamination control standards
  • Equipment installation and commissioning procedures
  • Ensure work instructions reinforce best practices that extend equipment life and prevent repeat failures.
  • Serve as the primary interface between operations and maintenance regarding planned work execution.
  • Participating in daily and weekly maintenance planning meetings
  • Coordinating equipment availability with production scheduling
  • Minimizing production disruption while ensuring necessary maintenance is performed
  • Promote a collaborative environment between operations, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Coordinate with procurement and storeroom personnel to ensure maintenance readiness.
  • Identifying required spare parts during work planning
  • Ensuring materials are available before work is scheduled
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to support maintenance operations.
  • Planning and managing work orders
  • Maintaining accurate asset history records
  • Managing maintenance backlog and schedule compliance
  • Generating maintenance performance reports
  • Ensure data accuracy to support reliability analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Support maintenance excellence by analyzing performance data and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor and support improvement of key reliability metrics such as:
  • Schedule Compliance
  • PM Completion Rate
  • Maintenance Backlog Health
  • Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF)
  • Mean Time To Repair (MTTR)
  • Participate in root cause analysis investigations and support defect elimination initiatives.
  • Coordinate contractor and vendor maintenance activities supporting plant operations.
  • Developing work breakdown structures (WBS) for contractor work scopes
  • Supporting maintenance-related capital projects
  • Coordinating service providers and specialized maintenance vendors
  • Ensure contractors follow plant safety and technical standards.
  • Perform vendor scorecard management
