About The Position

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Maintenance Worker (Power Plant) for the Ludeman Developmental Center located in Park Forest, Illinois to receive day to day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer. Monitors electrical power related to the output of heating and air-conditioning units and maintains records. Assists Stationary Engineer’s in cleaning motors and changing filters as necessary. Makes minor repairs such as repacking bearing of motors and oiling/lubricating electrical equipment and appliances including refrigeration systems.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires one year of experience performing a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as general assistant to stationary engineer, rendering help in the operation, installation, repair and maintenance of all plant equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains all equipment and fixtures of the facility.
  • Operates coal conveyor, front end loader and mechanical equipment in unloading coal and removing ashes from boiler pits, fills coal hoppers in power plant and operates coal conveyor.
  • Performs emergency repairs on equipment fixtures essential to the comfort and safety of residents and staff.
  • Assists engineering staff with inspecting control boards in plant mechanical room equipment including air handlers, circulating pumps, radiant heat pumps humidifiers, pneumatic distribution system and electrical panels and makes minor repairs; maintains log sheet of gas and electricity used.
  • Maintains and checks chemical analysis of water used in the drinking water system, HV AC systems and adds appropriate chemicals to maintain property chlorine concentration in the water systems.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
