About The Position

HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our Operations Team as a Manager, Plant III. Summary The Manager, Plant III is a highly specialized and critical position accountable for contributing to HarbisonWalker Internationals overall business performance through the overall operation of the plant; ensuring safety, production, quality and capital efficiency goals are met. This role is responsible for having adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, etc).

Requirements

  • Requires B.S. in Engineering, Science or related field

  • Requires strong management skills with the ability to supervise multiple teams

  • Excellent conflict-resolution and decision-making abilities
  • Requires knowledge of refractory materials, products, and operations
  • Requires computer operation skills including, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD and Oracle ERP
  • Requires strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Requires strong mechanical aptitude
  • Requires knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing and LEAN Management principles
  • Requires experience in working towards Lean production
  • Requires knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Standards Quality Management Systems
  • The Manager, Plant III requires four plus (4+) years of manufacturing and management experience in an industrial manufacturing operation.

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management qualification preferred
  • Lean/ Six Sigma, Green Belt certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing plans and KPIs to ensure the plant operates at optimum levels with efficient utilization of people, equipment, and resources; directing the resolution of operational, manufacturing, maintenance and quality issues to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays
  • Minimizing rework, scrap and material losses; continuously seeks and implements cost and waste reduction initiatives; utilizing tools like 5S, Lean and 6Sigma
  • Ensuring KPIs and targets are developed for departmental activities
  • Managing plant safety program(s) in a manner that supports a positive safety culture
  • Reviewing and directing all aspects of plant quality system
  • Managing engineering activities; developing and implementing short-term and long-term capital project plans; ensuring capital projects are delivered to scope, on time and within budget
  • Overseeing inventories of supplies, raw materials and finished; ensuring raw material planning and procurement meet manufacturing needs
  • Identifying, managing, and developing talent to maximize individual, team and organizational effectiveness; fostering a culture of engagement and accountability; coaching through feedback, development planning and performance management; using effective change management skills to effectively plan, implement and evaluate change management objectives
