About The Position

The Manager of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of PLC systems throughout the facility, including standalone PLC control systems, building management systems (BMS), computer system validation (CSV), and validated environmental monitoring systems. This role supports the management of automation projects, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and contributes to the continuous improvement of automated processes. Additionally, this role collaborates cross-functionally to enhance production efficiency and quality through automation technologies while leading and developing a team of engineers. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in life science, engineering or related field with 4+ years of related experience; or
  • Master’s degree in life science, engineering, or related field with 2+ years of related experience
  • 4+ years of experience managing people
  • Experience working in a changing, project driven organization
  • Previous experience directly supporting function

  • Experience with regulatory inspections, investigations, and change management
  • Experience in pharmaceutical/biological manufacturing operations

Responsibilities

  • Establishes clear expectations, develops and executes the automation strategy that aligns with the site objectives
  • Manages daily operations of the Automation team, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely completion of activities
  • Leads and develops a multi-disciplined team of engineers (PLC, CSV, BMS, VDS), fostering a culture of learning and development to ensure the team is positioned for growth
  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and milestones to drive data-informed decisions, identifies opportunities for process improvements, and implements initiatives to improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability
  • Supports the management of automation systems (e.g., BMS, VDS, standalone PLC-controlled skids) and related technology transfer activities
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of automation projects while maintaining FLBN’s “One Team” approach
  • Ensures proper documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) across all automation systems and processes
  • Provides technical direction and drives team capability through structured training initiatives
  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency
  • Builds and maintains relationships with external vendors and global colleagues to support systems and processes and implement best practices
  • Evaluates the teams’ performance, implements measures to improve productivity and engagement, and partners with People & Culture to recruit and retain talent
  • Performs other duties, as assigned
