Lead the evolution of Navitaire’s data organization from a centralized team model to a decentralized, domain-owned model with centralized governance. You’ll combine engineering leadership with hands-on development in modern data engineering practices to deliver high-quality data products and integration capabilities. You’ll be a change agent—defining operating models, improving governance standards, and partnering with core product development teams to embed data SMEs and accelerate delivery, while driving the transition toward cloud-based data platforms and services. This is a hybrid role and would require you to be in our Salt Lake City Office 50% of the time. In this role you’ll: Lead the transition to decentralized data ownership: establish roles, RACI, and collaboration patterns between domain teams and the central data governance function. Work with business data officer to improve and ensure data governance patterns and practices within the company. Collaborate on backlog management with product leads and engineering leads to prioritize, estimate, and deliver iterative value while setting capacity, commitments, and customer expectations. Mentor and grow multiple data teams: set clear performance metrics; develop people via coaching, career paths, and technical upskilling (e.g., C#, .NET, API design, CI/CD). Partner with Architects to design and deliver scalable data solutions (pipelines, APIs, services, and analytical products) for internal and external customers. Own the org design for embedding data engineering capability into product teams (structure, responsibilities, governance, and success measures), and drive a staged migration from the central team model with strong onboarding, documentation, and knowledge transfer to sustain long-term autonomy. Design and implement APIs and services (REST/gRPC) and full-stack features (e.g., ASP.NET Core back-ends and modern web frameworks) supporting data products and integrations. Drive cloud transformation outcomes (Azure preferred, AWS or GCP considered): modernize workloads, adopt managed services, and improve reliability, performance, and cost efficiency. Ensure test automation and code quality: promote unit testing, contract testing, and CI/CD gates; champion observability (logs, metrics, tracing). Communicate with customers and stakeholders: scope requirements, provide consulting/training, and lead troubleshooting/problem solving with transparency. Continuously improve processes and solutions: run retrospectives, simplify architectures, and remove bottlenecks across teams. Be willing to occasionally work outside normal business hours to collaborate with international teams.
