About The Position

Our 120,000 square foot Fitchburg, MA manufacturing facility can serve customers’ projects from concept to commercialization. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will uphold Micron’s commitment to safety, quality, and on‑time delivery by leading engineering activities that support new and existing manufacturing processes. You will drive technical problem‑solving, support production operations, and ensure the successful implementation of tooling, equipment, automation, and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Minitab proficiency and applied statistical analysis skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in plastics manufacturing, injection molding, or tooling.
  • Knowledge of robotics and automation systems, including PLC programming and debugging.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop User Requirement Specifications (URS) for tooling and equipment placed at Micron or supplied by vendors.
  • Evaluate manufacturing feasibility and provide technical feedback and recommendations to both internal teams and customers.
  • Support PFMEA and other process risk‑management activities; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Review customer part prints and ensure Micron's capability to meet specified tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve molding defects using scientific molding principles and root‑cause analysis.
  • Assist production teams to ensure on‑time delivery and maintain quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and training to shift technicians to enhance problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Convert data (including Minitab outputs) into actionable improvements to molding and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage builds, installation, and validation of secondary operations including robotics, welding, printing, and part‑handling equipment.
  • Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) to confirm equipment meets specifications.
  • Debug, optimize, and launch automation and secondary operations to ensure on‑time, on‑budget performance.
  • Set up work cells, optimize operator efficiency, and drive lean manufacturing principles.
  • Create detailed, accurate work instructions and supporting documentation.
  • Lead or support cost‑saving initiatives, lean projects, and process‑improvement activities.
