STAUNTON CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Mathematics Coach LOCATION: Elementary Schools IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal GRADE/RANK: TM13 FLSA STATUS: Exempt SUMMARY : The Mathematics Coach acts as teacher, leader, collaborator, and manager to ensure that high quality math instruction is provided, and math learning is maximized for all students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks: Models best practice in planning, implementation, and reflection of math instruction. Targeted support is provided in grades K – 5. Frequently participates in activities that foster personal learning and growth as a math educator as well as school and division growth. Builds rapport with school community and encourages a positive school environment focused on improving student learning, particularly in the area of math. Develops knowledge of math curriculum and participates in curriculum development and actively leads staff development. Creates enthusiasm for math, shows initiative based on needs, promotes math through planned activities, and influences math practice at the school and division level. Seeks opportunities to collaborate and plan with others to improve instruction, listens and guides teachers to reflect on their own practice, and freely shares ideas and resources. Demonstrates ability and professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community. Demonstrates the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administrators, and parents. Collects, organizes, manages, interprets, and uses data effectively to guide math instruction. Effectively balances time spent in classrooms, planning with teachers, and working with individual or groups of students, as needed. Performs other duties assigned by the Principal and other instructional supervisors.
