About The Position

The Mechanic I will perform routine fuel and lube change maintenance while also assisting Heavy Equipment Mechanics with service, repair, and maintenance of heavy equipment and light power train systems used for the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project, at the Moab or Crescent Junction site, including, but not limited to, heavy duty trucks and trailers, bulldozers, excavators, forklifts, water trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, trailers, light support vehicles, and maintenance on the shipping intermodal containers. The work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge to diagnose and repair heating and air conditioning systems. Welding experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months – 2 years experience with light equipment services and repairs
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair of light equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools for repairs, and servicing of light equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
  • Ability to read manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with other mechanics about repair work needed.
  • Motivated and willing to work as part of a team and perform multiple job functions.
  • Ability to read and comply with project direction contained in project-specific plans and procedures.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Proof of citizenship will be required as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) worker qualification and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical exam.
  • Welding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing on various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, generators, and pneumatic systems.
  • Assist with scheduled and unscheduled equipment service maintenance requirements, including oil and hydraulic changes, according to manufacturers’ recommendations.
  • Maintaining inventory of parts and support supplies to perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Maintains and updates paperwork and service records.
  • Assist Mechanics with overhauling engines, replacing engines, and rebuilding components.
  • Keeping tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
  • Road testing equipment.
  • Performing corrective and preventative maintenance on fleet of intermodal shipping containers.
  • Other related duties as assigned by management.
