About The Position

The Small Airborne Effectors Division, within the Leidos Kinetic Effects Business Area, currently has an opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer Summer Intern to work at our Huntsville, AL campus providing support to a variety of design and integration programs related to missile systems and unmanned aircraft. This is a dynamic opportunity in which talented mechanical engineer interns can thrive working on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects in the airborne systems arena.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be actively working toward a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Applicant must be a US Citizen.
  • Applicant must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or above.
  • Ability to perform physical work such as lifting up to 30-lbs.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use common hand tools.
  • Applicant must be willing to work in-office in Huntsville, AL.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standard
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD Software
  • Desire to solve complex technical problems and learn from a team of experienced engineers

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering design and integration activities for aspects of airborne systems (missiles and unmanned aircraft).
  • Develop conceptual CAD models and produce engineering drawings.
  • Work collaboratively with project team(s) to formulate innovative solutions to complex problems and products across a broad range of applications.
  • Work in a lab environment testing and assembling hardware.
