About The Position

TowerPinkster, an architecture, engineering, and interior design firm based in Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky, is looking for a talented skilled professional Mechanical Designer. This position is responsible for the design of mechanical systems for projects, efficient management of assigned projects, and coordination of project teams according to schedule. 5 years of experience is preferred. POSITION EXPECTATIONS + RESPONSIBILITIES: System Design & Technical Execution Design Development: Assist the Lead Engineer in the design and documentation of comprehensive mechanical and plumbing systems, including layouts, schematics, equipment selection, and detailed specifications. Technical Analysis: Research and analyze complex design options to determine the most efficient and cost-effective solutions for each project. Code Compliance: Document performance and code criteria for fire protection systems, ensuring all designs meet local and national safety standards. Sustainability: Employ sustainable design principles (LEED/Well) and accurately document system performance related to energy efficiency and environmental impact. Construction Administration: Streamline the construction phase by reviewing submittals and RFIs, evaluating contractor change orders, and conducting thorough on-site observations. Collaboration & Project Management Interdisciplinary Coordination: Actively coordinate mechanical and plumbing designs with architecture and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project integration. Integrated Solutions: Collaborate with project teams to develop innovative solutions for challenging design issues through a holistic AEC approach. Client Engagement: Represent the firm in client meetings and presentations as requested, providing technical clarity and project updates. Operational Excellence: Adhere to project schedules and strictly manage budgeted hours to ensure departmental profitability and timely delivery. Project Support: Provide versatile assistance to Project Managers and design teams to ensure all project milestones are met. Leadership & Mentorship Team Mentorship: Serve as a technical resource by mentoring and training entry-level designers across multiple office locations. Knowledge Sharing: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by sharing experiences, technical skills, and "lessons learned" with the broader engineering team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 3+ years of professional experience; direct experience within an A/E or MEP consulting firm is highly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Revit, building load calculation software, and relevant engineering systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Bluebeam, and Google Suite.
  • Strong working knowledge of: Mechanical, Plumbing, Building, and Life Safety Codes.
  • NFPA 13 and ASHRAE Standards (15, 55, 62, 90.1) and Guidelines.
  • Ability to produce high-quality construction documentation, reports, and drawings with a focus on accuracy and the elimination of conflicts or omissions.
  • Clearly articulates ideas and project progress to both internal teams and clients through verbal and written channels.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines and maintain project budgets.
  • Proven ability to perform root cause analysis and develop innovative alternative solutions.
  • Takes full ownership of tasks and actions, leading by example with a commitment to excellence and integrity.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as a proactive contributor within a high-energy team environment.
  • Driven by a passion for engineering and a desire to continuously sharpen technical skills and industry knowledge.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience is preferred.
  • LEED AP BD+C credential preferred.
  • Active participation in ASHRAE and ASPE is a plus.
